It is a kind of spell, the one that MUN activities create, which captures you and turns your fear to approach an unknown world into a never ending passion. When you are in Model United Nations, you are in. You begin to appease your appetite for this experience attending conference after conference, then you come to a point when this can't be enough and you need to organize your own Model United Nation.
This is the origin of CFMUNESCO.
For more than eight years, the Convitto Nazionale Paolo Diacono has been sending its students to several conferences worldwide, representing a high number of delegations and gaining lots of results and praises for their preparation and competence. The students of the Convitto have demonstrated a dynamic and pro-active attitude towards these activities, which led some of, them to develop the idea to organise their own Model United Nations Conference. A small group of these students expressed such desire to the headmaster of the school, who immediately decided to support them.
CFMUNESCO is the first Cividale del Friuli Model United Nations UNESCO and allows high school students from the age of 14 to 19 from all over the world to play the role of diplomats, simulating the United Nations’ debates and their universal aim of peace and security.
CFMUNESCO consists in three days of intensive debates, from 13th to 15th of November 2014, and is hosted by the Convitto Nazionale, where a qualified staff is ready to help the delegates and their advisors.
CFMUNESCO is a simulation of five committees: the Security Council, the Disarmament and International Security Committee, the United Nations Human Rights Council and the Environment Commission and finally the UNESCO. The latter is the special committee of our Conference and was chosen in order to emphasize the link between the city of Cividale and the UN body, which classified Cividale del Friuli part of its World Heritage List in June 2011.
All the topics debated during the Conference are under a common denominator, as shown by the main theme of CFMUNESCO: To Protect and Preserve, which is one of the main objectives of the United Nations and, particularly, of the UNESCO.
This Model United Nations, one of the few conferences in Italy, intends to give to all the participants the outstanding opportunity to experience the world of diplomacy and to be part of an international and multicultural setting in one of the most picturesque Italian Cities, internationally recognized for its historical, cultural and artistic relevance. All participants to the Conference will have the opportunity to discover Cividale del Friuli with its unique coalescence of Roman, Lombard and Medieval features.
We are looking forward to your participation, which will make the CFMUNESCO an unforgettable experience for all of us.
CFMUNESCO Executive Team
Hi! My name is Gabriele, and currently I'm a 12th grader at the "Convitto Nazionale Paolo Diacono" of Cividale Del Friuli. I've always lived in Italy and I speak italian, fluent English, good German and Russian. I have always found diplomatic experiences such as the MUN very interesting and I'm particularly interested in global issues. I'm involved in many other school projects and I travel often during the school year. I enjoy doing sports as gymnastics and football, and love reading and listening to music. After four years of experience as delegate and chair in many MUN assemblies throughout Europe, I'm really honored and humbled to take part to the first edition of the CFMUNESCO as the Secretary General of the conference. I'd like to create a stimulating and competitive atmosphere for the delegates of every committee, through an active and fruitful debate.
President of the Security Council
I was born and have always lived in Cividale. I am 18 years old and attend the last year of the Liceo Classico Paolo Diacono, where I study (among other subjects) English, ancient Greek and Latin. I have always been interested in international politics and diplomacy and for this reason I consider the MUN initiatives of the utmost importance. I took part to three MUNs as a delegate in the Disarmament Committee, the African Union Peace and Security Council and in the Security Council. I have been appointed President of the Security Council of the CFMUNESCO for my previous experiences in this kind of committee. I am very proud to have this important role and will do everything I will be able to create a challenging atmosphere.
President of the UNESCO Committee
I am a student in Language Studies at the Convitto Nazionale P.D. I speak fluent English, good German, and I have a basic knowledge of Russian.
I started attending MUN Conferences when I was 15 and took part in four of them since 2011. My first MUN experience, the MilanMUN, gave me a boost for all the further experiences I decided to undertake and I quickly came to consider it an inspirational project. I took part in the following MUN Conferences: MilanMUN, Pamun in Paris, RCIMUN in Istanbul and BCNMUN in Barcelona and I hope to take part in many more simulations in the future.
I will be the president of the UNESCO Committee, I am determined to make it a strong and productive committee and I hope to help the delegates of CFMUNESCO to enjoy this unique experience.
President of the Disarmament Committee
Hey! I am Matteo Ferluga, called Fier by almost everyone. I am the youngest member in the organizing committee, as I am 17 years old. I speak Italian, English, Slovenian and a bit of German. I have partecipated in two MUNs, the first time in the Political Committee and the second time in the ECOSOC Council. I will be the President of the Disarmament Committee in the first edition of the CFMUNESCO, as I think that the creation of a weapon-free world is one of the most beautiful utopias that the humanity should try to reach.
I am very happy and proud to be in the organization, as I think it is a great opportunity to enhace my knowledges regarding the management and the English language.
See you all in our wonderful city discussing in the conference!
Deputy Secretary General
President of the Environment Committee
My name is Giacomo Nunin and I have recently finished high school. I am currently a freshman at the University of Udine, here I study viticulture and the beautiful art of winemaking. CFMUNESCO is going to be my third MUN Conference. In March 2012 I took part in my first MUN in New York, followed in 2013 by another great experience in Istanbul. CFMUNESCO 2014 will be my first conference as Chair.
Since I was a kid, nature has been one of the things that has fascinated me the most, thus I am very excited to have the opportunity to be at the head of the CFMUNESCO Environment Committee.
Environmental health is an issue of huge importance for mankind, and we all have to contribute actively “To protect and preserve” its living organisms and resources.
This year’s main theme perfectly fits our committee, therefore I am sure that you will enjoy the topics we have decided to debate.
I look forward to meeting you all in the conference.
All the best,
President of the Human Rights Committee
Hello everyone! My name is Afroditi Karidomati and I’m Greek, or to be more accurate I’m half Greek and half Italian. I am 19 years old and I live in Athens, Greece. A year ago, I moved to Trento, a beautfull city in northern Italy, where I study European and Transnational Law at Law Faculty of Trento University.
I was very honored when I was announced that I would be presiding the Human Rights Committe. Not only because the topics we are discussing are directly related to my University studies, but also due to the fact that myself was brought up in a multicultural enviroment, my family, where I was taught that everyone is equal, born with the same rights, and “different” it is not a synonim of “strange” or “threat”. Before CFMUNESCO I have attended several conferences as a delegate : starting with Genoa (IT) 2010, Manhattan(NY) in 2012 and Instanbul(TU) in 2013. CFMUNESCO is going to be my first experience as a chair and I will do my best in order to get you excited and enthusiasts!
Head of the Staff and Security
I am Giacomo Brandolin and I am glad to participate as the Head of Admin Staff and Security in this CFMUNESCO 2014! I am 20 years old and I attend the 6th (the last) year of the Agricultural school “ISIS P. d’Aquileia” in Cividale. My MUN experiences started in 2013 with the NHSMUN in New York and continues with the RCIMUN in Istanbul. I’m living in Cormons, a little nice city in a famous area of good wine called ‘’Il Collio’’, twenty minutes far from Cividale. So, I will wait you in the conference.
